A 16-year-old Pickering boy faces two charges after Durham police investigating alleged online threats searched a home and seized a 3D printer and an incomplete firearm component.
Durham Regional Police said the youth is charged with uttering threats and manufacturing firearm parts. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The investigation began on Sept. 30, 2026, when the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch received information from several sources, including international policing partners. That information alleged a youth had posted online comments about making firearms using a 3D printer, according to police.
Investigators executed a search warrant at a Pickering residence on Oct. 1. The West Crime Team and E-Crimes unit assisted the Criminal Investigations Branch with the search.
Police said they seized several electronic devices, a 3D printer and an incomplete polymer lower receiver for an Urutau, which the service described as a semi-automatic firearm that can be produced using 3D printing.
The component identified in the police release was incomplete. The release did not describe the seizure of a completed firearm.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident, or relevant cellphone, dashcam or surveillance footage, to contact Det. Const. Arshad of the West Division Crime Team at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 1905.
