Durham Region Transit has permanently closed a bus stop on Kingston Road in Ajax, forcing changes for riders on Route 227 as the route detours through nearby streets until further notice.

Stop #1590, located on Kingston Road westbound at Wicks, is now closed for good, Durham Region Transit said. Customers who used the stop are being directed to Stop #1591, on Kingston Road westbound at Salem, west of Salem Road.

At the same time, Route 227 is on a detour that took effect October 30, 2026. Buses are travelling via Shoal Point Road, Bayly Street and Pickering Beach Road, and riders should expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

Which stops are affected

While the detour is in place, buses will not serve stops on Range Line Road, according to the transit agency.

Stop #94290, on Pickering Beach Road southbound at Dreyer, will also be skipped.

To help riders affected by those closures, a temporary stop has been added on Dreyer Drive, eastbound at Pickering Beach Road.

What riders should do

Customers who normally board at the closed Wicks stop should walk to the Salem stop instead, while those who use the skipped stops on Range Line Road or Pickering Beach Road can use the temporary Dreyer Drive stop.

Riders planning trips on Route 227 should budget extra travel time while the detour remains in effect. No end date has been announced.
