Drivers in Ajax should plan for delays on Westney Road North this week as the Region of Durham carries out culvert replacement, ditching improvements and paving work.

The lane restrictions and temporary lane closures will run during daytime hours from October 14 to 16, according to the Region of Durham. The schedule could change if the weather does not co-operate.

The affected stretch is Westney Road North (Regional Road 31) from 100 metres south of Concession Road 5 to 100 metres north of Greenwood Road.

Lane restrictions will be in place for the safe replacement of a culvert, ditching improvements and paving work. As construction progresses, temporary lane closures will be required to complete the asphalt surface.

The Region of Durham said the work supports development in the area and is needed to keep the roadway safe for both travellers and construction workers.

One lane will stay open at all times, and traffic control personnel will be on site to direct vehicles through the work zone.

The Region acknowledged the construction may be disruptive and said crews will try to finish the job as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are being asked to use caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.

Residents can check a live interactive map of current construction projects and up-to-date traffic information at durham.ca/TrafficWatch.

Questions about the work can also be directed to the Region by calling 311 within region limits or 905-668-7711.
