A 52-year-old Toronto man is facing multiple charges after an alleged attempt to fraudulently transfer vehicle ownerships at a Service Ontario office in Whitby.
Durham Regional Police said officers from Central West Division responded to a fraud-in-progress call at the Service Ontario location at 1615 Dundas Street East on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
According to investigators, the man attended the office and attempted to register several vehicles that were not registered in his name to a third party. Police said he had also previously carried out several transactions that were determined to be fraudulent.
Officers arrived at the scene and took the man into custody without incident.
Menis Mihalaiche, 52, of Toronto is charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of uttering a forged document, and one count of attempted fraud over $5,000.
Police have not released further details about how the alleged scheme worked or how much money was involved. The allegations have not been proven in court.
