Six weeks of road work begins Thanksgiving weekend
Drivers in Pickering should plan for delays on Peter Matthews Drive (Regional Road 28) starting this month. According to the Region of Durham, lane restrictions will be in place from Oct. 12 to Nov. 20, weather permitting.
The restrictions will run from just south of Burkholder Drive to Alexander Knox Road (Regional Road 40). The Region says the work involves catch basin and maintenance hole adjustments, along with surface asphalt placement, in support of new development in the area.
One lane will stay open
Traffic control personnel will be on site to direct vehicles, and one lane will remain open at all times, the Region said in its notice to residents.
The municipality acknowledges the work may be disruptive and says crews will try to finish as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Drivers are being asked to slow down and use caution in the work zone for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and construction crews.

Residents can view a live interactive map of current construction projects and up-to-date traffic information at durham.ca/TrafficWatch. The Region also offers eNewsletters for updates on its activities and operations.
The schedule may shift if unfavourable weather hits the area during the six-week window.
